WOMEN’S SOCCER
ERIE — Junior midfielder McKenna Aleksivich (Clearfield) scored two goals and sophomore midfielder Tessa Munshower (Clearfield) assisted on one of them as Penn State Behrend began its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference slate with an 8-0 rout of Pitt-Greensburg at the Behrend Field Saturday afternoon.
Aleksivich, who had made only one other appearance, fired a shot from the top of the 18 into side net in the 81st minute and then cashed the rebound off Munshower’s corner kick that hit the post with just three second remaining.
Munshower also hit the post in the first half on one of her three shots. She has registered five shots in five games as a reserve.
The Lions moved back over .500 at 5-4.

CLARION — Junior midfielder Carlee Freeberg (Clearfield) played all but four minutes in Clarion’s Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference losses to Seton Hill 2-0 last Wednesday and at undefeated East Stroudsburg 3-0 Saturday.
She has played every minute in seven of her nine starts for the Golden Eagles, who are 2-6-1 with a 2-5-1 PSAC record.

LORETTO — Sophomore forward/midfielder Heather Thorp (Curwensville) saw 7:55 of action for St. Francis in a 6-0 loss to Duquesne at the Stokes Soccerplex Friday afternoon.
She has appeared six games for the Red Flash, 2-9 for the start of their Northeast Conference schedule.

BEAVER FALLS — Junior strong safety Austin Jacobson (Curwensville) matched his season-high with six tackles, three solo and three assists, as Geneva evened its record at 2-2 with a 35-27 win over Thiel in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference clash that attracted 6,058 fans to Reeves Field Saturday.
One of his tackles was in the Tomcat backfield for a loss of one yard.
Jacobson is the fifth-leading tackler for the Golden Tornadoes with 18 tackles, two for losses of two yards. He also has one pass breakup.
Geneva is 1-1 in the PAC.

DALLAS, Pa. — Sophomore linebacker Nick Kovalick (Clearfield) logged four tackles, two of them solo stops, and junior center Brad Stubbs (Curwensville) helped pave the way for the offense to overcome a 17-6 third-quarter deficit and defeat host Misericordia 28-24 in front of 1,200 fans at Mangelsdorf Field Saturday.
The Warriors took the lead with three touchdowns on four drives and than ran off the final 5:53 on 11 rushes for their first win in three Middle Atlantic Conference outings.
Kovalick is fourth on the Lycoming (2-2) defense in stops with 18, including a team-high three tackles for losses totaling 12 yards. One of those resulted in a safety.

HUNTINGDON — Junior offensive lineman Jon Janocko (Clearfield) made his third start at left guard for Juniata in a 45-22 loss to visiting Franklin & Marshall at Knox Field Saturday afternoon.
A crowd of 3,100 saw the Eagles’ three-game winning streak snapped in an outcome that left both teams 2-1 in the Centennial Conference and 2-1 overall.

ALLISON PARK — Junior Brett Gardner (Curwensville) topped Pitt-Bradford with a 90 in the La Roche Invitational at the Wildwood Country Club last Tuesday.
The Panthers’ 368 score was 12th in the 14-team tournament.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — St. Francis (Pa.) senior Rebecca Johnson (Curwensville) covered 5,000 meters over the Stanley Quarter Park course in 22:91.1 at the 14th Ted Owen Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State Saturday.
Her season-best time ranked 132nd among the 156 runners from 14 teams who crossed the finish line.
The Red Flash were fourth with a 107 score.
