PIKE TOWNSHIP – Clearfield County Sheriff Wes Thurston has announced a sheriff’s posse mock exercise on the Greenwood Club property June 25 in Pike Township.

Beginning at 10 a.m., posse members will do a mock search for a lost child, Jessica Smith. She walked away from a picnic site and has been missing for several hours, Thurston said.

He said the wooded area is known to contain rattlesnakes, so posse members have been advised to dress with protective boots and clothing.

“The purpose of the exercise is to provide posse members with practical experience in searching a wooded area for a missing person along with any articles the person may have left behind,” he said.

According to him, Clearfield Emergency Medical Services will have equipment at the site.  A registered nurse and licensed practical nurses will also be present.

Thurston would like to thank the Greenwood Club for permitting the posse members to use its property for the mock search exercise. He also wanted to thank various posse members and public safety organizations for loaning emergency equipment, horses and an all-terrain vehicle.
