DUBOIS — Ethan Long got the best of Brandon Orsich in a duel of five-hitters as DuBois spoiled the Central Penn League opener for the Clearfield American Legion Post 6 baseball team, 2-1, at Showers Field Thursday evening.

The Chiefs broke on top in the second inning when Jake Sorbera singled home Orsich, who had led off with a hit and advanced on a passed ball.

The hosts countered in the fourth frame.

Back-to-back doubles by Braden Paulinelli and Adam Bankovich tied it up. After Ryan Radaker singled, Daron Walker drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly.

Clearfield stranded 10 runners, including one in every inning with three in the third after Long walked the bases full.

Long allowed five free passes but recorded seven strikeouts.

Orsich whiffed five and walked two.

Jarrit Wagner had two hits for the Chiefs, who will welcome Beech Creek to the Lawrence Township Recreation Park Field Sunday for a 6 p.m. makeup of Tuesday’s postponement.

Manager Sid Lansberry also announced Monday’s game at Bellefonte must be rescheduled since many of the Bandits will be playing for the District 6 Class AAA champion high school team in the first round of the PIAA Tournament.
