STATE COLLEGE – The Hospitality Industry hosted a ProStart competition Feb. 24 in State College.
ProStart is a nationally accredited two-year program for high school students that prepare “tomorrow’s hospitality industry leaders.”
Eight high schools from the state of Pennsylvania competed at this event. Jeff Tech Culinary students competed in the culinary and management division at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.
The culinary team included Ali Brooks, Dani Carney and Ashley Jones. The management team included Brayden Bowser, Macey Hollenbaugh, Heidi Chesnalavich, Christyn Beichner and Amber Pequeen.
At this competition, Jeff Tech culinary students were able to demonstrate the knowledge they have obtained from the ProStart program.
Students were given the task of preparing a three-course gourmet meal in 60 minutes, using only two butane burners.
The ProStart program is being taught to culinary students at Jeff Tech by the Culinary Arts instructor Larry Galluzzi.
This was Jeff Tech’s first time competing at ProStart. The students enjoyed the opportunity to participate and gained vital skills and experience from this event.
