Donald Trump: ‘There’s nobody that’s done so much for equality’

Donald Trump said “there’s nobody that’s done so much for equality as I have” and unequivocally renounced the support of white supremacists on Tuesday.

Trump’s remarks came in an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” days after his apparent failure to disavow former Klu Klux Klan leader David Duke in an interview Sunday with CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Asked by host George Stephanopoulos if he was “prepared to make a clear and unequivocal statement renouncing the support of all white supremacists,” the Republican front-runner sought to put the issue to bed.

“Of course I am, of course I am,” Trump said.

Trump dismissed concerns over his muddled response in the CNN interview, saying, “David Duke and all were disavowed, I disavowed them on Friday.”

He also pointed to disavowals he made on his social media accounts.

“I disavowed them every time I speak to somebody virtually, and you know, they just keep it going, they keep it going,” he said.

And Trump pointed to the Mar a Lago club in Palm Beach, which Trump owns, as evidence of his racial inclusivity.

“There’s nobody that’s done so much for equality as I have. You take a look at Palm Beach Florida, I built the Mar a Lago club, totally open to everybody. A club that frankly set a new standard in clubs and a new standard in Palm Beach. And I’ve gotten great credit for it,” Trump said. “That is totally open to everybody.”

Trump’s disavowal comes at a critical juncture in the Republican primary fight, as Trump looks to lock up the GOP nomination when 13 states vote on Super Tuesday.
