Raven-Symoné, co-host of “The View,” swore on the talk show that she will move to Canada “if any Republican gets nominated” for president.
After her election confession Thursday, co-host Joy Behar pointed out to Raven-Symoné that she is not a Canadian citizen. Co-host Candace Cameron Bure chimed in, saying she needs a visa to work in Canada.
“I already have my ticket,” Raven-Symoné said. “No, I literally bought my ticket. I swear.”
The hurdles that Americans have to jump in order to reside in the Great White North may become a reality for Raven-Symoné, because a Republican candidate will have to be receive the party’s nomination to run against the Democratic candidate and any third-party or independent candidates in November.
Twitter users criticized Raven-Symoné for her comments, saying she lacks an understanding of how the election process works.
“Someone needs to start writing her lines. Her ignorance on the political process is sad. But, it’s a good laugh!” one person tweeted.
This is not the first time the former Disney star’s comments have fallen flat.
In October, she said she would never hire someone who had a “ghetto” name such as “Watermelondrea.”
People expressed frustration, claiming that Raven-Symoné was discriminating based on a name.
A year earlier, Raven-Symoné came under scrutiny for telling Oprah she does not identify as African-American and does not want to be called gay.
“I don’t want be labeled gay,” she said. “I want to be labeled a human who loves humans. I’m tired of being labeled. I’m an American. I’m not an African-American.”
No matter who she is, Raven-Symoné might be accepted on the Canadian island of Cape Breton, where a resident has created a website to lure dissatisfied Americans: “We welcome all, no matter who you support, be it Democrat, Republican or Donald Trump.”
