The 22nd annual Science Day was held Nov. 24 at St. Francis University.
More than 511 high school students and 49 high school teachers from 31 area high schools engaged in learning opportunities focused on several branches of science.
Students who are enrolled in Sarah Fye’s advanced chemistry class at Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School had the opportunity to participate in science activities and informational sessions throughout the day.
Local scientists and professors throughout the area engaged students through science presentations and hands-on sessions.
Students were able to learn and explore aspects of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) on a campus setting with SFU students, faculty, and local professionals.
Throughout the day, many students got to participate in science presentations. These presentations involved exciting hands-on experiences presented by St. Francis University students, faculty and science industry professionals.
Students had the opportunity to choose from 45 different science-related presentations. Some students participated and worked on human cadavers, while focusing on the thoracic cavity. Other students learned and witnessed chemistry in action.
Chemistry is behind most technologies that are currently in use, from the space program to household kitchens. A few students explored the science behind scuba diving, where students had the opportunity to scuba dive in the university’s swimming pool!
