DUBOIS – The undefeated Kane Wolves moved a step closer to repeating as District-9 Class A champions in high school football Saturday afternoon with a convincing 49-13 win over the Curwensville Golden Tide at Mansell Stadium in DuBois.
It was the second time this year that the Wolves have defeated the Tide, picking up the win in week seven, at Kane, 35-6.
And, just like the first meeting, it was the senior Rolick brother twins doing all of the damage.
Quarterback Shane Rolick had four rushing touchdowns for Kane, and threw for two more. Shane totaled 240 rushing yards on 20 totes.
Running back Tyler Rolick had one rushing TD and scored another on a pass from brother Shane while going seven for seven in PATs.
Kane took the opening kickoff and scored on a 39 yard touchdown pass from S Rolick to T Rolick with 10:42 remaining in the opening quarter.
T Rolick scored again in the first quarter on a four yard run with 2:58 left to give the number two seeded Wolves a 14-0 margin after the first 12Â minutes.
The Golden Tide stuck with the favored Kane squad on a 30 yard touchdown run by sophomore back Nick Stewart with 10:45 remaining before the half. The extra point attempt was blocked, but, Curwensville now only trailed 14-6.
Stewart ened the night with 150 yards on 34 carries.
With approximately three minutes to go before halftime things took a dramatic turn for the Tide. But, not in a good way, not at all.
Senior quarterback Jake Terry went down with a game ending injury that certainly would hamper the offense of the Golden Tide.
Terry came into the game with 19 touchdown passes and 1,500 throwing yards.
And to make matters worse, the Wolves scored on a 31 yard pass from S Rolick to fullback Tyler Weidenhoff with just 22 seconds to go in the second quarter that took a lot of steam out of the Tide, who trailed 21-6 at the break.
Sophomore QB Bryce Timko was handed the offense and even though his inexperience in varsity level play showed, the relief quarterback did provide some spark at times for Curwensville.
But, it was still the Rolick brothers’ show.
Two touchdown runs by S Rolick in the third quarter essentially tucked the game away for the Wolves, who now upped its lead to 35-6 after three.
The mercy rule came into effect early in the fourth and final quarter on a 33 yard run to the end zone by S Rolick that made the score 42-6, Kane.
The Curwensville defense had a shinning moment on the afternoon on a 15 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by senior Korie Laird with 7:23 to go in the contest.
Senior Jared Bakaysa added the extra point for the Golden Tide.
Still in the game, S Rolick put the final points of the day on the board with only 3:18 remaining on a 27 yard TD jaunt.
Kane, now 11-0, moves on to the title game next weekend against either Brockway or RedBank Valley, while the Tide end its season with an 8-4 record.
