Gary Irwin “Doc” Woodel, 56, of Clearfield died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at his residence after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 11, 1959, he was the son of K. Gilbert Woodel and Nancy J. (Holt) Woodel Sloppy.
He first had worked for the former Cresent Brick in Clearfield for eight years. He then had worked in the maintenance department for The Progress for 17 years; most recently he was working for Lowes Home Improvement Store in Clearfield.
He was a life member of both the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department and the Lawrence Township No. 1 Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as fire chief of both and also had held various offices.
He also had initiated the Lawrence Township Volunteer Fire Company Rescue Service. He also was a past member of the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department Fair and Park Board and served as chairman of the fundraising committee for the local Make-A-Wish Foundation.
He wed the former Kelly J. McClelland on May 11, 1985 in the Madera United Methodist Church. She survives along with his mother and step-father, Merv Sloppy of Clearfield.
He is also survived by two god-daughters, Elaina McClelland and Sadie Rae Shellenberger; a sister, Debra Gardner and her husband, Craig of Clearfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Woodel was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield with the Rev. Daniel Osterhout officiating. Burial will be in the Hill Crest Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
