CURWENSVILLE – It’s three victories in a row to start the 2015 season for the Curwensville Golden Tide football team after beating the Falcons of Coudersport Friday night, at home, at Riverside Stadium, 35-0.
It was the Jake Terry to Quamone Newkirk show as the senior duo hooked up for three touchdown passes to pave the way for the Golden Tide. Newkirk grabbed five balls for 157 yards in total during the game.
Terry now has eight touchdown tosses on the season, with Newkirk hauling in seven. Terry finished eight of 15 for 198 yards.
Sophomore running back Nick Stewart opened up the scoring with a 15-yard run at the 5:30 mark of the first quarter then hauled in the two point conversion pass from Jake Terry to put the Tide in front 8-0.
Curwensville would tack on two second quarter touchdowns to take a 21-0 margin into the halftime break.
Stewart scored on a 4-yard scamper with 10:53 in the second and Newkirk grabbed a 48 yard touchdown pass from Terry with just 1:35 left before intermission.
Tide kicker Jared Bakaysa added the extra point after the Stewart touchdown and failed the PAT attempt after Newkirk’s score. Stewart rumbled for 118 yards on 17 carries, while running mate Hunter Johnson led the way with 123 yards on only 10 carries.
The mercy rule came in to play in the third quarter as the Golden Tide put up two quick scores, both touchdown passes.
Terry hit Newkirk on a 39-yard strike with 10:51 remaining in the third and again on a 35-yard toss with 8:23 left.
The PAT attempt failed after the first third quarter score but Terry hit Eli Jacobs on the two point conversion attempt following the second TD.
With the Tide out in front 35-0, the game was then finished under the mercy rule.
Curwensville has now defeated the Falcons four straight years.
Coudersport is 0-3 on the year and have lost their last seven games, including the final four of 2014.
The Tide travel to Emporium next Friday to play Cameron County, with the kick-off set for 7 pm.
Cameron County lost Friday night to Brockway, 54-0, to fall to 0-3 on the 2015 season.
