Lady Raiders Capitalize on Walks, Lady Bison Errors

BELLEFONTE — Perennial District 6 Class AAA champion Bellefonte took advantage of six walks and six Clearfield errors for an 11-2 Mountain League win in high school girls softball action Monday afternoon.

The Lady Raiders solved loser Raeleigh Redden and Karlie Lewis for only five hits as all but two of their runs were unearned.

Both of the Lady Bison runs were tainted, too, as Lady Raiders Tara Baney and Rachel Bernier combined on a three-hitter.

Baney, who pitched a one-hitter in a 10-0 victory over Penns Valley last week, went four innings for the win, allowing one hit while striking out four and walking three. Bernier fanned two and walked one in registering the save.

Macala Leigey had two hits for the Lady Bison, including a fifth-inning double that drove in Molly Sartin, who had reached base on an error.

Clearfield (1-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Brooke Cline, aboard via an error, scored on Brittani Priester’s groundout.

Redden breezed through the first two innings, but Bellefonte (2-0) parlayed three hits, two walks and two errors into five runs in the third and broke it wide open with four more in the fifth.

Sarah Menna singled twice and Jordan Rockey doubled for the Lady Raiders, while Stevi Confer drove in three runs on two grounders and a bases-loaded walk.

The Lady Bison will go to Huntingdon Wednesday for a makeup game and then visit Tyrone Thursday.

Mountain League standings – Bellefonte 2-0, Bald Eagle Area 1-0, Huntingdon 1-0, Clearfield 1-1, Central 1-2, Philipsburg-Osceola 0-0, Penns Valley 0-1, Tyrone 0-2.
