Avonell R. Kyler Trude, 90, of Winburne died Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at her family home. Born July 7, 1923 in Winburne, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Alice Rhinehart Kyler.
She was a member of the Winburne Presbyterian Church. She served as a registered nurse in World War II and continued her nursing career helping many people in local communities.
She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and reading books. She was famous for making afghan blankets and dish cloths. She set a great example for her selflessness, dedication and perseverance.
She served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps from Dec. 1, 1944 through April 30, 1946. She obtained the rank of first lieutenant as a registered nurse. She went off to war as a young nurse to minister to the sick and dying of World War II in Africa and the European Theater.
She earned several decorations during her service. She returned to her home after the war and continued helping other people by serving as a nurse for the Philipsburg State Hospital, as well as a school nurse for the Winburne Elementary and Cooper Township Schools. She later retired to be a homemaker.
She’s survived by three daughters, Jackie Yanock and her fiancé, Dan Squires, Lana Morris and Abbey Leid and her husband, Rodney and three sons, John Trude and his wife, Christine, Troy Trude and his wife, Sue and Terry Trude and his wife, Rhonda.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Brett and Mike Dickson, Neisha Keebler, Kylie Yanock, Tyson and Stephanie Leid, Taylor Trude, Kody Trude, Laura Trude and Katie Trude and six great-grandchildren, Cade Dickson, Phoenix Dickson, Paris Dickson, Ashley Keebler, Jordan Leid and Katelyn Leid.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Trude; her parents; four sisters, Alveda Wolfe, Olive Gardner, Ruth Beightol and Vivian Neidrick and one brother, Russell Kyler.
Services and burial will be private for family and relatives. There will not be any public visitation. The Strange & Weaver Funeral Services of Morrisdale is serving the family.
