HYDE — Sophomore pitcher Brandon Orsich and senior outfielder Curtis Collins of Clearfield were named to the 2014 Mountain League All-Star Team’s second unit in voting by the head coaches that were based on league games played through May 12.

In a team-high 12 appearances, Orsich recorded a glittering 1.75 earned run average with a 2-2 record. His losses were to undefeated District 6 AA champion Central and District 9 Class AAA champion Punxsutawney.

He pitched a four-hitter in the Bison’s 2-1 setback at Central on April 2, and that was the fewest hits the Scarlet Dragons had in one game until beating Quaker Valley 4-1 on just two safeties in the first round of the PIAA Tournament Monday. Also, the Scarlet Dragons were held to two runs on only one other occasion, a 2-0 victory over Huntingdon.

Orsich, who completed three of four starts, worked 40 innings with 32 strikeouts and 12 walks. He allowed 33 hits and 18 runs, 10 earned.

Left fielder Collins was the leading hitter for the Bison with a .328 average. He had six multi-hit games and failed to hit in only three of Clearfield’s 19 games.

Collison also topped the Bison in hits with 22 and runs scored with 17. He drove in 10 runs.
