CLEARFIELD – Do you want to use your life to make a difference for others? You should consider becoming a Home Nursing Agency Hospice volunteer. Home Nursing Agency is seeking volunteers in the southern and eastern areas of Clearfield County.
“It’s the best decision you’ll ever make,” said Lisa German, Hospice volunteer. “You will get back so much more than you give and meet wonderful people who enrich your life in so many ways.”
Hospice volunteers offer companionship to patients experiencing life-limiting illness while providing relief for caregivers. Many volunteers spend time talking with or reading to patients, allowing them reminisce about their lives.
“I thought that it would be scary and I wouldn’t know what to do or say to somebody, but in actuality, it’s really just like being a friend,” German shared. “I feel honored and privileged to be a part of people’s lives.”
Volunteers give caregivers the opportunity to run errands or take time for themselves to rejuvenate from the physical and emotional demands of caring for someone with a life-limiting illness. Volunteers can also support family members after their loved ones have passed away by reaching out through phone calls or notes from the comfort of their own homes.
Being a volunteer does not require an extensive skill set or time commitment, according to Home Nursing Agency Hospice volunteer Carolyn Leacy.
“To help others, you really just need to care,” she shared. “You wouldn’t think two hours of your time would be much, but it means the world to patients and family members.”
In addition to the rewarding experience of helping others, Home Nursing Agency volunteers receive mileage reimbursement, free flu shots and other benefits.
