Project will remove bridge from structurally deficient list

GLEN HHOPE– Work to replace a bridge in Clearfield County will require a closure on state Route 729 (Tyrone Turnpike Highway), beginning Wednesday.

The project will remove the Comfort Run Bridge from Clearfield County’s structurally deficient list. A section of Route 729 will be closed between Route 53 in Jordan Township and Route 969 in Glen Hope Borough through the completion of the project. Work is expected to be complete by mid-June.

This closure will feature an official PennDOT detour, although local traffic may prefer to find alternate routes. The official detour for the project is approximately 50 miles in length.

Local residents will be granted access to homes on either side of the project area. Drivers traveling north will take Route 53 north to Route 153 north, to Route 879 west, to Route 453 south, to Route 969 west, to Route 729 south. Drivers traveling south will take Route 729 north, to Route 969 east, to Route 453 north, to Route 879 east, to Route 153 south, to Route 53 south.

The current bridge is located three miles northwest of the village of Glen Hope. It was built in 1934, is 10 feet long and crosses Comfort Run in Jordan Township.

The bridge carries an average of 465 vehicles per day. PennDOT Clearfield County Maintenance will replace the structure with a box culvert. All work is weather dependent.

Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, follow detour signs, and always buckle up.
