CLEARFIELD – At Tuesday’s workshop meeting, the Clearfield County Commissioners announced that the county’s judicial sale of approximately 27 real estate properties will be held on June 18.
Commissioner John A. Sobel, chair, noted the county has received a lot of input from community members, including a local borough council member and a school board member. These people, he said, have expressed interest in the opportunity to purchase properties not sold at a tax claim upset sale.
The county originally wanted to hold its judicial sale in March. However, the commissioners found the process of scheduling one to be extensive, especially so far as clearing the properities for judicial sale, according to Commissioner Mark B. McCracken.
He explained the county had to conduct titles searches on properties. The sheriff’s office had to serve every person who was listed for the property. Then, he said the county solicitor and chief assessor had to prepare paperwork for the judge’s review and approval.
Commissioner Joan Robinson-McMillen explained it took Clearfield County longer than others to schedule the judicial sale. The county, she said, wanted anyone who purchased property during the judicial sale to get a free and clean title. Robinson-McMillen thanked the Tax Claim Bureau for its due diligence in preparing for the county’s judicial sale.
Sobel said the commissioners hope people participate in the judicial sale, as it will put properties back onto the county’s tax list and in turn generate more revenue. Solicitor Kim Kesner said anyone interested in the judicial sale should contact the Tax Claim Bureau.
The county, Sobel said, plans to hold judicial sales on an annual basis.
