ALTOONA – The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State is partnering with the Penn State Altoona Division of Arts and Humanities to offer a choral workshop with men’s choral ensemble Cantus.
The workshop will take place April 2 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. in the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. It is free and open to adults interested in the vocal arts.
A rehearsal to familiarize participants with the workshop piece, If Ye Love Me, will be held March 30, from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. in the Titelman Study of the Center under the direction of Steve Knell, emerging artist in residence at Penn State Altoona and Ivyside Pride conductor for spring 2014. Cantus will offer a free performance, Seeking Sonic Space: Science and Serendipity on April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Edith Davis Eve Chapel.
Both programs are part of the Center for the Performing Arts Classical Music Project. The three-year project, supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, provides opportunities to engage students, faculty and the community with classical music artists and programs.
Cellist Matt Haimovitz and pianist Christopher O’Riley, in January of 2013, and Brentano String Quartet, in March of 2012, visited Penn State Altoona as part of the project’s first two seasons. Learn more about the project at http://cmp.psu.edu.
