HARRISBURG – During the three-day Christmas holiday driving period, there were 900 accidents investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police.  Those accidents resulted in 255 injuries and eight deaths.

From Dec. 24 through Dec. 26, state police investigated a total of 900 accidents.  Of those accidents, 41 were alcohol-related and involved two fatalities. Also, seven of the eight people who died in accidents were not wearing seatbelts.

Troopers made 151 arrests for driving under the influence and issued 983 speeding citations during the holiday period. State police also cited 193 individuals for failure to wear seat belts and issued citations to 23 drivers for failing to restrain children properly in child safety seats.

During last year’s four-day Christmas holiday driving period, seven people were killed and 315 others were injured in 1,336 accidents investigated by state police.

The accident numbers cover only those incidents investigated by state police and do not include statistics on accidents to which other law-enforcement agencies responded.
