Obituary Notice: Fredrick H. Herman Jr.

Fredrick H. Herman Jr., 80, a resident of Philipsburg, died Thursday, July 25, 2013 at his residence. Born March 28, 1933, he was a son of the late Fred H. and Rubye (Ammerman) Herman.

On Oct. 15, 1955 at the First Presbyterian Church, Philipsburg, he married Barbara “Babs” (Briggs) Herman, who survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Lynn B. Herman and his wife, Julianne of State College, Amy B. Beltz and her husband, Jeffrey of Palmerton, Marti B. Eggers and her husband, Kevin of Miamisburg, OH and Guy B. Herman and his wife, Cathryn of Southlake, TX.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Josiah Jones, Ketura Rapchak, Austin Eggers, Evan Eggers, Jack Eggers, Vanessa Eggers, Colton Herman and Clay Herman; one great-grandson, Silas Jones; a sister-in-law, Diane Herman of Johnstown; a nephew, Jeffrey Herman and his wife, Kim of Grass Valley, Calif.; and a cousin, Joyce Anderson of Clearfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert C. Herman.

He was a 1951 graduate of the Philipsburg High School. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War. He was a lineman for Penelec and retired after 37 years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Philipsburg, where he was a former deacon and trustee member.

His memberships included the Philipsburg Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1173, Philipsburg Free & Accepted Masons Lodge #391, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Philipsburg Historical Foundation, Philipsburg AM Vets Post#159, Philipsburg American Legion John Ashley Dennis Jr. Post #437, Philipsburg Area Republican Club and Hope Fire Co. No. 2 of Philipsburg.

He enjoyed golfing, travelling and spending time at his summer camp at Cold Stream.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Sam Strohm officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. An Elks memorial service will be held at 6:15 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Fire Co. No. 2, 400 N. Front St., Philipsburg, PA 16866 or to the First Presbyterian Church, 509 E. Presqueisle St., Philipsburg, PA 16866.
