CLEARFIELD — Six teams have committed to play in the 19th annual Clearfield “Past-Your-Prime” 40-and-Over Modified Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament booked for Aug. 10 and 11 at Bucky Strunk Memorial Field.

Defending champion Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub will be challenged by other Clearfield squads, Buster’s Sports Bar/Siegel Engraving and the Meatheads, as well Potter’s Bricklayers of Philipsburg, the Emporium Used-To-Be-Goods and the Bedford Over-the-Hillbillies.

Tourney committee member Jerry Bickel noted that one or two additional teams might join the weekend’s festivities, with Aug. 4 the entry deadline.

A new feature this year is that wood bats will be mandatory for the double-elimination tourney that also has two speed-up rules, all batters going to the plate with a 1-1 count and games ending early if a team is ahead by 10 runs after five innings or later.

Another organizational meeting is planned for July 23. at 7 p.m. in Buster’s Sports Bar and the pairings will be drawn Aug. 6 in Buster’s.
