CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville man was sentenced to state prison last week for smuggling drugs into the Clearfield County Jail.

Denny Daub Jr., 24, 433 Schofield St., Curwensville, pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy/contraband to confined person and possession of a controlled substance-contraband. He was sentenced to two to four years in state prison. In a second case, he pleaded guilty to retail theft. For this he received a concurrent two to four year prison sentence.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Christopher Irwin was undergoing a drug test prior to his scheduled release from the jail when he tested positive for buprenorphines (suboxone). When he was questioned by police, he admitted to taking Subutex, which he had gotten from Daub.

Daub told officials he smuggled a bottle of suboxone strips into the jail when he was booked into the jail on April 2.  Daub explained he had two packages of suboxone in a white plastic container that were hidden in his underwear when he was arrested. The sheriff’s deputies did not find it when they searched him and neither did the guards at the jail. While he was in a holding cell, he put the white tube into his rectum to hide it.

Daub met Irwin while they were both incarcerated and gave him some of the drug to help him sleep, he said.

Irwin, 25, of Reynoldsville, pleaded guilty June 3 to possession of a controlled substance/contraband. He was also sentenced to two to four years in state prison.
