CLEARFIELD -The Clearfield Borough Council voted to help the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department with covering the cost of a new fire police vehicle at Thursday night’s regular meeting.
Fire Chief Todd Kling said the fire police were looking to acquire a used ambulance style box van to replace their current vehicle. He said they’ve received community donations, and the fire department is contributing $5,000 toward the vehicle.
Kling asked the borough to make up any difference if needed. Clearfield Mayor James Schell said the vehicle will cost around $20,000.
The council voted to contribute up to $5,000 toward the cost difference.
In other business:
A draft of the nuisance ordinance was presented to Borough Solicitor F. Cortez “Chip” Bell III for review. Council member Fred Wisor expressed unease with the ordinance.
“We’re opening up a whole can of worms with people’s leaves blowing on their neighbor’s property. It’s not going to stop,” said Wisor.
Code Enforcement Officer Larry Mark said he had driven around two of Clearfield’s wards recently to inspect snow-covered sidewalks. He returned with 300 photos of sidewalks that were not shoveled.
Mack wanted to remind the public that un-shoveled sidewalks were a safety hazard, and he doesn’t need to inform the property owner before issuing a citation.
“Are you keeping a list of addresses for those photos?” asked Council member James Kling.
Mack confirmed he wrote the date and address on each photo. James Kling asked Mack to keep those properties in mind if there were another snowfall. Mack said he would be sending out citations for sidewalks on Friday.
