WASHINGTON, D.C. – Allen M. Solida, 18, of Clearfield County will soon join the cadets at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, according to U.S. Rep. Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, who nominated him.  Allen is the son of Michael and Linda Solida of DuBois.

“Allen has excelled in his studies and served his community, and it is an honor to congratulate him on his acceptance to West Point,” said Thompson. “This young gentleman will be an outstanding cadet and his talents and dedication will be real assets as he begins this new journey at the Military Academy.”

Solida received an un-weighted 4.0 cumulative grade point average at DuBois Area High School while ranking fourth in a class of 270 students. During his sophomore year, Solida represented DuBois Area at the 2010 National Youth Leadership Forum, and during his junior year, the Lead America National High School Leadership Conference.  He is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Outside of the classroom, Solida is a member of the DuBois Area High School Varsity Rifle Team and holds the school’s rifle match high score record of 287. He has also competed in state and national rifle competitions, including numerous trips to the Junior Olympic Championships.

“Allen Solida has demonstrated he is fit to serve our nation’s Military Academy and his acceptance to West Point is a remarkable accomplishment,” Thompson added. “I wish him the very best as he takes on this new and exciting challenge.”

In addition to his studies and extracurricular activities, Solida volunteers with Red Cross America, the Agriculture & Youth Fair, Bowling for Kids Sake, and he also performs Alter Server duties at St. Michael Archangel Church.

Allen’s paternal grandparents are Harry Solida of Reynoldsville and Judy Dreese of DuBois and his maternal grandparents are the late Allen and Dolly Walker of Clermont.
