The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for much of the region until 7 a.m. Saturday. The advisory is in effect for counties, including Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Elk, Huntingdon and Somerset.
According to the NWS, the Laurel Highlands, south central mountains and lower Susquehanna River Valley are expected to get snow or mixed precipitation that will change to snow.
A light coating of ice is possible Friday morning that is expected to be followed by 1 to 3 inches of snow in the afternoon and evening. Up to 4 inches of snow is possible near and just north of Interstate 80. Snowfall is expected to end early Saturday.
The NWS said outdoor items and walkways could possibly have a light coating of ice Friday morning, with snow-covered and slick roads possible Friday afternoon and evening. There may be a few periods of poor visibility, under one-half mile.
