CLARION – Clarion University President Karen M. Whitney will host a town hall meeting, “Building the future Clarion University campus,” at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in the American Legion Banquet Room, Main Street, Clarion.

Whitney and Ric Taylor, university director of facilities planning and management, will present information about the proposed plan for new student housing on Main Street, as well as the overall campus master plan.

According to Taylor, the university recently engaged the firm of Perkins Eastman to conduct a campus and facilities master plan study that will give a vision for the campus’ development over five, 10 and 15 years.

“They, so far, have visited campus several times to observe existing conditions and collect data,” Taylor said. “The study will not only consider potential additional facilities but will include the study of existing building uses and conditions, landscaping, signage, vehicular and pedestrian traffic, parking and the campus’ interrelation with the borough and our neighbors.”

For Perkins Eastman’s February visit, the design team has scheduled more than 30 meetings with a wide range of campus constituencies and will conduct a session at the town hall meeting.  They will give an overview of the planning process and will listen to the comments and suggestions of borough residents.

“I hope everyone interested in the future of the university and interested in working together to make Clarion University and the Clarion community more successful will attend the town hall meeting,” Whitney said.
