DUBOIS — The Clearfield Area High School wrestling team went 1-1 to finish second at the District IX AAA Team Wrestling Championships held at DuBois Area High School on Saturday.
Clearfield beat St. Marys in the semifinal match at 12:30 by a score of 41-31. That win put them in the finals at 3:30 against host DuBois, the number one seed. Once there, DuBois won 51-23 to claim the title.
The AA title was won by an undefeated Redbank Valley squad 33-29 over Brookville.
Both Clearfield matches pretty much mirrored the first go-round for Clearfield with both opponents.
Just last week, Clearfield jumped out to a 35-0 lead over St. Marys and held on for a 38-33 win. On Saturday, the Bison jumped out to a 22-0 and then 35-3 lead and held on for the 41-31 win.
Against DuBois back on December 11 the Bison lost 56-21, while managing a 51-23 final this time. The match on Saturday saw the undefeated season of Bison senior Christian Stone come to an end after 26 wins as he was beaten 4-3 by familiar foe Garrett Brown. Stone and fellow senior Nolan Barger now match 26-1 records to lead the Bison heading into the final week of the regular season for Clearfield.
Other top records for the Bison include Dylan Graham at 25-3, Noah Cline at 20-10, and Logan Gilbert at 19-9.
Clearfield (7-8) will host two matches this upcoming week to close out their dual meet season. The Philipsburg-Osceola Mounties (7-6) will invade the Arthur J. Weiss Gymnasium, followed by the Huntingdon Bearcats (13-3) on Thursday night.
