DUBOIS – OAG Management has announced that they, in association with the Western Pennsylvania Police Athletic League, are bringing Golden Gloves boxing to the DuBois area.

The DuBois Country Club, located at 10 Lakeside Ave., DuBois, will be hosting the event on April 6. The event will feature approximately eight live bouts, ranging from first-round to semi-final fights in various weight classes and divisions.

The fights will be intense since the winners will be advancing to the Pennsylvania Golden Glove Championships.  Local boxers who train at Helman’s PAL, located in Punxsutawney, will also be featured throughout the Golden Gloves event.

Tickets for the event are $20 for general admission and $30 for reserved seating; there are a limited number of VIP Gold Ringside Tickets for $100, which includes a complimentary cocktail hour and hors d’oeuvres.  Tickets go on sale at 5 p.m. Feb. 1 here.

For more information on tickets or for sponsorship opportunities, email WPAL@oagmanagement.com or visit here.

The Golden Gloves comes with a long history of producing Olympic medal winners and professional boxers.  Since the first Golden Gloves tournament in 1923, the Golden Gloves Organization has been committed to their mission of promoting emotional well-being and developing athletic skills, work ethic and discipline while providing entertainment to the community by putting on the annual Golden Gloves Tournament.

The 2013 tournament begins in February and wraps up with the National Finals held in Salt Lake City, UT in May.

The Western Pennsylvania Police Athletic League has been working in the communities of western Pennsylvania, spreading their message “Always for the Kids” by promoting positive interactions between kids of all ages and local law enforcement officials.  The WPAL has been involved with the Golden Gloves for many years and has been diligently working to reach out to new communities.

WPAL Director and Founder, James M. Cvetic said, “I am very pleased that the WPAL was able to work with OAG Management to schedule a 2013 tournament event in DuBois. It is an area, where we have not yet had a large event and we hope that we can continue to have a presence in DuBois even after the Golden Gloves are over.”

The WPAL has been working to promote good relationships between law enforcement and the youth in western Pennsylvania by creating positive interactions, such as boxing for many years both through the Golden Gloves and through the various gyms they run throughout the state.  The WPAL encourages local law enforcement officials to work out in their gyms (free of charge) with the kids in the area and to interact with them on larger scale events such as the Golden Gloves.

The purpose of the event can be found in the words of James M. Cvetic, who said, “We have seen bonds form and understanding widen.  It is truly a great cause that the WPAL spends a lot of time cultivating in order to help build western Pennsylvania’s communities.”
