Obituary Notice: George T. Holt Sr.

George T. Holt Sr., 95, of Munson died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital. Born Feb. 16, 1917, he was the son of the late Oscar and Clarissa Mann Holt.

Mr. Holt was a member of the Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Allport.

He owned and operated the former Holt’s Tire Capping and Repair Service. He was a member of the Moshannon Valley Free & Accepted Masons No. 391, Philipsburg, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Consistory, Valley of Williamsport and the National Rifle Association.

He married the late Geraldine Davis Holt on Nov. 2, 1940 in Osceola Mills.

Mr. Holt is survived by five daughters, Sylvia K. Rockey of Forest; Delphine Dixon and her husband, Harvey of Munson; Darlene Ziembo and her husband, Frank of Severn, MD; Sharon Sherry and her husband, Joseph of Black Moshannon; and Marsha Moriarity of Osceola Mills and two sons, George T. Holt Jr. and his wife, Sally of Munson and Donald G. Holt and his wife, Jacqueline of Pardee. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and one great great-child.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Dwight David Holt; one great-grandson, Daniel Dixon; one infant great-granddaughter, Jessica Straw; one son-in-law, Richard Rockey; two sisters, Edith Holt and Hazel Taylor; and three brothers, John, James and Charles. Mr. Holt was the last of his generation.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of the Strange & Weaver Funeral Service, Morrisdale, with the Rev. Heather Baker-McAllister officiating. Burial will be in the Allport Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. A masonic service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home by the Moshannon Valley F&AM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Gethsemane United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 185, 369 Allport Cutoff, Allport, PA 16821 or to the Clearfield Hospice, P.O. Box 992, Clearfield, PA 16830.
