LOCK HAVEN — Redshirt junior wide receiver Jesse Hoover (Curwensville) scored two touchdowns to help put Lock Haven (0-8) in position to halt the longest losing streak in school, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and NCAA Division II history at Hubert Jack Stadium Saturday night.
However, Clarion (4-4) reeled off 13 plays and covered 90 yards in the final 1:21 to stun the Bald Eagles 30-28 via a three-yard TD pass on the final play of the PSAC Western Division game that attracted 2,117 fans.
Hoover had put Lock Haven ahead 28-24 with what one sports writer described as a “circus catch” in the corner of the end zone for a 22-yard touchdown with 1:26 remaining.
Freshman running back Beau Swales (Clearfield) contributed a career-long 12-yard run to that six-play, 88-yard drive.
Hoover’s first TD was a 60-yard catch-and-run, Lock Haven’s longest pass play of the season, that sliced Clarion’s lead to 17-14 with 1:57 left in the first half.
He wound up with three receptions for 100 yards, the third triple-digit performance of his three-year career.
Swales netted 15 yards on three carries for the Bald Eagles, whose losing streak stands at 50 games.
Freshman longsnapper Eric White (Clearfield) registered his first tackle in punt coverage for Clarion, which is 2-3 in the PSAC-West.
Hoover, who joined the ranks of Lock Haven receivers with 1,000 yards earlier this month, is third on the team with 12 receptions and second with 205 yards. He has caught three of the five TD passes thrown by quarterback Jarrett Kratzer (Lewistown/Indian Valley H.S.).
Swales has rushed 30 times for 69 yards, caught one pass for two yards and returned two kickoffs for 34 yards.

WILLIAMSPORT — Senior starting wide receiver Jarrin Campman (Clearfield) hauled in three passes for a team-high 72 yards in Lycoming’s big Middle Atlantic Conference showdown on Homecoming Saturday at David Person Field, but undefeated and No. 14-ranked Widener (7-0) came from behind for a 28-23 win to disappoint the crowd of 4,235.
The Warriors couldn’t completely capitalize on their defense’s seven turnovers and couldn’t protect a 23-14 lead with 9:21 left in the fourth quarter, falling into a tie for second place with Delaware Valley at 5-1 when the Pride stunned them on a 34-yard touchdown pass with just 17 seconds remaining.
Sophomore Tyler Jenny (Coalport/Glendale High School) connected on 18 of 30 passes, his school-record sixth consecutive game with a completion percentage above 60, for 202 yards and two touchdowns.
Campman leads the Warriors with 29 catches for 407 yards and eight touchdowns, tying him for 10th place on the school’s all-time single-season list, as well as punt returns with 10 for 186 yards and one TD.
His 54 points also are tops on the team, while his 593 all-purpose yards are second.
In the MAC, Campman is tied for fifth in scoring, seventh with 4.1 catches per game and ninth with 58.1 receiving yards per game.
Jenny has climbed to fourth among MAC passers with 164.4 yards per game. He is 108-for-177 (61.1 %) for 1,151 yards and 12 TDs with only three interceptions.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Redshirt freshman Derek Morgan (Clearfield) made his third start at free safety a productive one with seven tackles and two pass break-ups as Slippery Rock (4-4) pulled out a thrilling 38-31 win in overtime against Edinboro (3-4) to make it a happy Homecoming for the crowd of 6,754 in Mihalik-Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Morgan broke up the Fighting Scots’ fourth-down pass on the final play of overtime to seal it for The Rock, which led most of the way in upping its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division record to 3-2.
Late in the fourth quarter with the score 31-31, Morgan made a key stop on Edinboro’s first-down play at the SR-1 to key a goal line stand that ended with a missed field goal.
Morgan has played in every game with 15 solo stops, 14 assists and three pass break-ups.

OBERLIN, Ohio — Senior starting defensive back David Kalgren (Curwensville) had three solo tackles and returned two kickoffs for 40 yards and one punt for 10 yards in Oberlin’s 24-17 non-conference loss to Case Western Reserve (4-3) with 1,038 fans looking on at Savage Stadium Saturday afternoon.
He leads the 2-5 Yeomen in interceptions (4), pass break-ups (5) and punt returns (11 for an 11.27 average).
His picks are tied for the North Coast Conference lead and tied for 21st in NCAA Division III. He’s also 27th in D-III for punt return average.
Kalgren has 32 tackles, 25 of them solo stops, and returned seven kickoffs for a 17.14 average.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Senior Parker Herrington (Clearfield) kicked four extra points, extending his streak of successful conversions to 55, as Air Force (4-3) hiked its Mountain West Conference start to 3-1 by turning back New Mexico (4-4) 28-23 before a Falcon Stadium crowd of 29,726 Saturday night.
Herrington has registered 31 PATs this season to go with one field goal for a total of 34 points, second on the team.

PITTSBURGH — Redshirt junior starting center Nick Redden (Clearfield) helped make Duquesne’s 35-3 Northeast Conference win over Sacred Heart a special game for quarterback Sean Patterson, who rushed for three scores and passed for the other two Saturday afternoon.
A Rooney Field crowd saw the Dukes (5-2) extend their home-turf winning streak to 10 and remain in the NEC title chase at 3-1, good for third place.

INDIANA — Freshman running back Alex Holland (Curwensville) played on special teams for Indiana University of Pennsylvania (7-1) in a key 31-13 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division victory over Mercyhurst (6-2) in front of 1,896 fans at Miller Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks, ranked No. 20 in last week’s American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II Poll, needed the win to keep alive their title hopes, for the Lakers were tied atop the PSAC-West. Now, both teams are 4-1 and trail California by one game.
Holland has appeared in every IUP game, rushing 22 times for 110 yards and three touchdowns and logging two tackles.
