CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville man has been sentenced to state prison for having a gun and for burglarizing a local sub shop.

Cory Lynn Reinard, 25, 621 High St., Curwensville, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty Monday to person not to possess a firearm and receiving stolen property in one case and burglary, retail theft, criminal mischief, possessing instruments of crime and prohibited offensive weapons in a second. He was sentenced to three to six years in state prison. He was fined $7 plus costs. In a third case, he pleaded guilty to possession of a small amount of marijuana for which he was fined $1 plus costs.

The burglary charges stem from an incident on July 28 at the South Side Subs Shop in Curwensville. According to the affidavit of probable cause, police received a report that the shop had been vandalized. Officers were able to view footage from a video surveillance system, which showed a white male enter the business carrying a hand gun. He removed numerous boxes of cigarettes, snuff and bottles of energy drinks.

On July 30, police received a report from a woman who stated Reinard told her he was the one who burglarized the shop. After police showed her the video footage, she immediately identified the male as Reinard.

The firearm and stolen property charges were filed after police found Reinard lying along Rails to Trails near Carbon Mine Road in Lawrence Township. He was on top of a duffel bag and near a handgun. When he was awakened, he said he had been walking to a friend’s home. The bag contained three checkbooks belonging to his mother and step-father, cigarettes, snuff, energy drinks and various snacks. Reinard told police he could not have a gun because he was previously convicted of a felony burglary. He said the bag belonged to his step-father and the gun may have been in it. He said he couldn’t remember where all the other items in the bag came from.

When police spoke to his step-father who had just returned from vacation, they learned Reinard had taken the gun from a drawer in the bedroom of his mother’s home.

Further investigation tied the items in the duffle bag to the burglary of South Side Subs.
