CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man was sentenced Tuesday to state prison for stealing items from his employer.

Joseph Stanley Wilson, 42, 315 E. Locust St., Clearfield, pleaded guilty to theft by unlawful taking. He was sentenced to 12 months to five years in state prison. He was fined $1 plus costs and must pay restitution of more than $14,290. He must also submit to DNA testing at a cost of $250.

Clearfield County President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman noted after he announced the sentence that he chose state incarceration for Wilson because of the seriousness of the case and because he was employed by the victim.

The charges stem from incidents between April 1, 2011 and Sept. 21, 2011. According to the affidavit of probable cause, Wilson removed copper pipe, copper wire and aluminum from Wischuck Concrete on Meadow Street in Curwensville. On Sept. 9, 2011 James Wishchuck reported the theft because he found several concrete panels missing. He suspected Wilson, who was an employee. Police contacted Novey Recycling in Clearfield and discovered that an employee there remembered Wilson bringing in aluminum panels on several occasions.

In an interview with police, Wilson admitted to taking 24 aluminum panels, copper pipe and approximately 50 feet of copper wire from the business to Novey’s Recycling.
