CLEARFIELD – A DuBois man accused of pointing a rifle at a police officer pleaded guilty this week during sentencing court in Clearfield County.
Eugene C. Minns, 35, of 818 Washington Ave., DuBois, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. He was sentenced to 90 days to one year in jail and two years consecutive probation. He was fined $300 plus costs. He was also ordered to submit to DNA testing at a cost of $250 and to complete anger management counseling.
The charges stem from an incident Oct. 15 in DuBois when officers were called to Minns’ home for a reported man who wanted to kill himself, according to a previously published report. When officers arrived, they observed Minns inside a garage with a vehicle running.
One officer broke out a window to cover Minns while another went to the garage door. The officers observed Minns holding a rifle either under his chin or in his mouth. They ordered Minns to drop the weapon.
Instead he turned and pointed the rifle at the second officer. The first officer used a taser on Minns, who then dropped the gun. The officers tried to handcuff him, but Minns resisted until they used the taser a second time. They were then able to restrain Minns and place him under arrest.
