NCAA President Mark Emmert has announced severe punishment against Penn State football for the University’s handling of the child sex abuse scandal, which involved former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.
According to multiple media reports, the program will be fined $60 million with monies going toward an endowment for child sex abuse victims. It must also reduce 10 initial and 20 total scholarships each year for a four-year period.
In addition, Penn State football must vacate all wins from 1998 – 2011, a total of 112 victories. The program has been handed a four-year bowl game ban. Current players have an option to transfer schools immediately without any penalty.
The Penn State athletic program will be placed on probation for five years.
