HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Clearfield County, is alerting Pennsylvania students of a new financial assistance program for specialized training in high-demand occupations.
“Awards will be provided to qualified students on a first-come, first-served basis until all of the $5 million in funding has been exhausted,” George said. “The grants can be used for tuition, fees, books and other costs.”
The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency – PHEAA – is administering the Pennsylvania Targeted Industry Program, known as PA-TIP, from its business earnings. The program targets courses in energy, advanced materials, diversified manufacturing, agriculture and food production.
Details on PA-TIP include:
? Eligible courses must entail less than two academic years and be ineligible for State Grants aid.
? Need-based grants will be awarded up to the maximum State Grant, $4,348, or 75 percent of the student’s allowable costs, whichever is less.
? Institutions offering eligible courses – ranging from electronics, drafting, well drilling and welding to mechanics and forest management – will be encouraged to participate.
