DUBOIS – A Kersey man wound up in the hospital following a high speed chase on Monday.
According to the Sandy Township Police Department, a resident of South Brady Street reported that her upstairs neighbor’s estranged husband had been coming to the residence and causing a disturbance. He was told by the landlord to not come back, but on this day, he returned and caused a disturbance again.
Officers contacted the 45-year-old Kersey man and told him not to return to the residence. The man became uncooperative with police, and later returned to the residence.
While officers were on their way to the residence, the man left on a motorcycle. Officers attempted to pull the man over, and he fled at a high rate of speed. He drove onto state Route 119 toward the West Liberty area, passing vehicles on the burm, and then fled into a wooded area, coming out on West Liberty Road. A Sandy Township officer was standing on the side of the road where he was coming out of the woods, in an attempt to stop the man. The driver sped up and attempted to hit the officer. The officer was able to avoid being hit and the man sped across West Liberty Road attempting to flee again.
Contact with the man was made on Hepburn Road where he was still traveling erratically and at high rates of speed. He reached the end of Hepburn Road and crossed US Route219, without stopping, where he lost control of the motorcycle and he struck an embankment at a high rate of speed. He crashed the motorcycle and was air lifted to Altoona for his injuries.
Alcohol was a suspected factor in his actions. Charges are pending.
Sandy Township was assisted by the DuBois City Police Department.
