
Shirley Lou Schnarrs, 82, of Philipsburg, died Tuesday at Windy Hill Village. She was born Oct. 28, 1929, the daughter of the late Albert and Isabel (Sankey) Wood.
Mrs. Schnarrs was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Philipsburg, for more than 65 years. She was formerly a member of the Willing Workers group.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Tyrone Chapter #288, and of the advisory board for the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, Moshannon Valley Chapter #121.
For 10 years, Mrs. Schnarrs had been a committee member with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. She had also been the co-chairperson for Daffodil Days.
She was a 1947 graduate of the Philipsburg High School and received her licensed practical nursing certification from the Pleasant Gap Vocational School.
After graduating high school, she worked with the identification division of FBI in Washington, D.C. She later was employed with the Presbyterian Home, Philipsburg, as an LPN before retiring as a supervisor in 1995.
Mrs. Schnarrs was also a mother and a homemaker.
She wed Henry H. “Hank” Schnarrs on June 25, 1949 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Philipsburg. He survives her at home.
Also surviving are a son, Henry H. “Smoke” Schnarrs III and his wife, Tammy, of Philipsburg; three brothers, Albert Edgar Wood and his wife, Joann and Robert S. Wood and his wife, Marcella, all of Philipsburg, and Jerry L. Wood and his wife, Connie of Shrewsbury; one granddaughter, Penny Joy Schnarrs of Arlington, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Gerald Krum officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 East Spruce St., Philipsburg, and from 2 p.m. until the hour of services Friday at the church.
An Order of Eastern Star memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
