CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough will be getting funds for new downtown lights.
The borough was told by Alan Walker, secretary of DCED,  that they were awarded for the lighting. The grant paves the way for replacing the eight foot lights around the borough with twelve foot tall LED lights. The borough’s match for the grant will be installing the lights themselves.
The lights will reduce power usage in the borough. With this announcement the borough held off on changing electricity providers until it can be seen how much the decrease in usage will reduce the borough’s power bills. The council reviewed the rates for On Demand Energy, but the rates provided were dependent on contracts. Stott was uncertain as of the meeting if the quoted rates were for the one year, two year or three year contracts. Once signed, the borough would be locked into said rate for electrical usage whether the rates rose or fell.
The LED lights will also allow for the reinstallation of the shooting star lights. The main objection council had for the shooting star lights were the possible liability hazard due to how far their placement on the current eight foot light poles.
