DUBOIS – Chris Bernado’s Carpet Shack was announced as the Greater DuBois Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year at the 2011 Business Bash.

“Every year we present a small business of the year for the previous year.  Every year it is so hard,” opened Nancy Micks, president of the chamber of commerce.

The decision is made by the chamber’s executive committee.  Eventually the choice is narrowed down to a few small businesses.  The award is given by the previous year’s recipient.  This year Joe Grecco, representing Giancarlo’s Pizza & Italian Restaurant, presented the honor and award.

“Chris’s goal is to give everyone coming into her business the best service she can,” said Grecco.

Grecco explained how Bernardo helps the community and makes donations to better it.  Also Bernardo’s efforts to match the best flooring product to their needs.

“The most important people in my world are my customers,” said Bernardo near the end of her acceptance.

Bernardo stated that 2010 had been a tough year.

Bernardo thanked her family from parents, husband, son, in-laws and siblings.  She also expressed thanks to Nancy Micks, President of the Chamber of Comerce.

“Our community would not be what it is without her,” said Bernardo.
