Making the long road trip didn’t seem to have any ill effects on the Lady Tide as they took a quick 12-8 first quarter lead over the Lady Bucks.
The second quarter wasn’t as kind to Curwensville as Bucktail dampened the hopes of their visitors by topping the Tide 17-5 to take an eight point halftime lead, 25-17.
Curwensville coach Rusty McCracken spoke about the effort of his squad, “We didn’t stop playing hard all night long. The girls won two quarters but we just didn’t play good defense in the second quarter which really hurt us tonight.”
The Lady Tide (2-7) would win the second half 22-19 to keep the game close but couldn’t make it back from the hole they dug themselves in the second quarter.
McCracken said this about that comeback, “We were down by 11 points in the fourth quarter but we still managed to battle back and we were still playing very hard. I felt we had a shot to win there in the fourth quarter but we just couldn’t get all the way back. I was very proud of our effort tonight.”
Taylor Bumbarger was high scorer for Curwensville as the senior dumped in 15 points while fellow senior Katie Wriglesworth added seven.
Bucktail was lead by Trish Gentzel with 19 and Cassidy Cowfer with 11.
In the junior varsity battle the Curwensville girls stopped Bucktail 36-25 as Tiara Bumbarger had eight points while teammate Tierra Shope chipped in with seven.
The Lady Tide return to action on Monday night when it entertains the Lady Vikings of Glendale at Patton Hall with the JV game beginning at 6 pm and the varsity game to immediately follow. Glendale defeated Curwensville in the first game of the season 56-37.
