No new taxes are planned for City of DuBois residents for 2011. The first reading of the budget took place at the City Council meeting Monday night. There won’t be any increase of rates for water or sewage as well. However, sewage rates may go up in 2012.
The general fund is budgeted to have a balanced budget of $4,417,488 for revenue and expenditures. The sewer budget is balanced at $2,539,584. The water budget is balanced at $3,096,600. The Highway Aid Funds budget comes in at $185,088.
The rates were not restated at the meeting for water or sewer, but the first readings of the council bills for the tax rates were given. Each person over 18 in the City will have to pay $5 as a per capital tax and another $5 as a residency tax.
The millage will remain at 88 mills for taxable land and 2 mills against all taxable buildings and improvements in the city. Another 1.5 mills will be levied against the total real estate valuation of the City for general fund purposes towards the DuBois Public Library Fund and the Recreation Fund.
The city also voted to award Glacial Energy to provide the electricity to all city buildings and metered devices owned by the city. This is expected to bring a savings of $42.5 thousand to the City.
This will only affect city property. This includes the fire halls, the water and sewage treatment facilities, the garage and meters in the park. The DuBois Library was stated to pay for its own electric bills, but being the city’s library it could get in under this plan if it wanted to.
