CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of raping a 13-year-old girl waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

Prior to his scheduled hearing, Jarvis asked for a 30 day continuance. He argued that the commonwealth had already continued the case twice. Jarvis stated that he needed to obtain counsel.

The commonwalth argued that they were ready to go, and indicated that Jarvis initially had the public defender’s office as representation, then hired Ron Collins. Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. stated that Jarvis recently dismissed Collins.

Magisterial District Judge James Hawkins said he doesn’t often grant continuancs. He said he was not going to in this case, stating that Jarvis had more than enough time to get counsel.

According to court records Jarvis sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl on Oct. 3. According to what the girl told police on Oct. 19, Jarvis convinced her to enter a room and sexually assaulted her.

Police conducted their investigation and filed criminal charges, which were signed off on by Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland then issued a warrant for Jarvis.

It was learned that he was in the Latrobe area. The state police in Latrobe were notified of his potential whereabouts. He was found sleeping and taken into custody.

The LTPD picked Jarvis up at 7 a.m. on Oct. 20 and brought him back to Clearfield County, where he was arraigned before Ireland. Jarvis is currently in Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.
