FALLS CREEK – PennDOT District 2 issues the following update for its roadway and bridge improvement project in the Falls Creek area. The work zone stretches from the US Route 219/state Route 830 intersection near Sheetz to Falls Creek.

In the coming weeks, area drivers can expect:

  • Beam setting on Wolf Run Bridge Nov. 18 and 19.  Beam deliver may cause slight delays and traffic may be stopped intermittently.
  • Westbound paving on Route 830 should be complete by Thanksgiving.
  • Traffic will be able to use the new roadway, which will be two lanes.
  • Except for Wolf Run Bridge restrictions, the roadway through the project will be full-width in early January 2011.
  • Beams on Slab Run Bridge near Sheetz will be set next week on Nov. 24.
  • The Slab Run Bridge will be complete in December.
  • The Route 219 intersection signal will be updated in December.
  • The stop condition at the Larkeytown Road intersection remains in place.
  • Crews will work on-site through winter, concentrating on the Wolf Run Bridge.
  • Final paving will take place in spring 2011.
  • Signals will be operational in spring 2011.

Along with bridge work, the overall project also includes: Addition of a turn lane on Route 830 from Route 219 to Larkeytown Road; installation of a new signal at the Larkeytown Road intersection; upgrade of the railroad signal; and improvements to the merge lane and entry lane at the Route 219 intersection.

Due to traffic volumes through the work zone, drivers should remain alert for slowed or stopped traffic and should anticipate travel delays. H.R.I., Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $4.7 million job.  All work is weather dependent.

PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions before heading out.
