CLEARFIELD – In an effort to provide the best service to all patrons who walk through the doors of the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, staff at the library may now issue library cards to residents living in the Clearfield County Public Library service population.

Due to guidelines set by Commonwealth Libraries of Pennsylvania, Shaw Public Library issues its library cards to residents of Clearfield Borough, Lawrence Township, and Bradford Township.  Residents outside of its direct service area are encouraged to support their home library by applying for a library card from the Clearfield County Public Library to use at many of the libraries in Clearfield County.  In recent months, it has become evident to the directors of both the Shaw Public Library and Clearfield County Library that many residents surrounding the Clearfield community utilize the services offered at Shaw Public Library. With this exciting new change, any patron who enters the library may be issued the appropriate library card for either Shaw Public Library or the Clearfield County Public Library.  Residents living in the service area of Curwensville Public Library, Osceola Mills Public Library, or DuBois Public Library would still need to visit the home library location to obtain the library card that could be used at any library within the Clearfield County area.

To obtain a library card for either Shaw Public Library or the Clearfield County Public Library, one should present a photo identification card and a current address.  In addition, a patron should also have an available reference to list on the application card.

For more information about obtaining library card, please contact the library at 814-765-3271 during regular business hours.  Shaw Public Library is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., and Fridays from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Additional information can also be found on Shaw Public Library’s Web site at www.clearfield.org/shaw  or visit http://www2.youseemore.com/clearfieldcounty/bookmobile.asp.
