Obituary Notice: Elizabeth G. (Brennan) Popyack

Elizabeth G. (Brennan) Popyack, 91, of Smithmill died at Tuesday at the Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.

Born on July 19, 1919 in Fernwood, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Lillian (Fox) Brennan. She was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ramey and member of the former Altar Rosary Society of Holy Trinity Church.

Mrs. Popyack was employed as a postal clerk in the Beccaria and Smithmill Post Offices from1966 – 1975. She was also the Smithmill Postmaster from 1975 – 1986.

On Aug. 17, 1950 in the former St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Houtzdale, she married Andrew E. Popyack. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1980.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Hawkins and her husband, Robert and one son, Andrew M. Popyack, whom are all of Smithmill.

She is also survived by two grandchildren, Brian M. Hawkins and his wife, Ivanna and Jessica E. Popyack; one brother, Martin M. Brennan of Brisbin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Mary Jane Belin; Lorraine Faughner; Catherine Gow; Edith Spiwak; and infants Lillian and Margaret; three brothers, John Brennan; Thomas Brennan; and Reuben Brennan; and one daughter-in-law, Carol (Wargo) Popyack on Nov. 20, 2009.

Friends will be received from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Kruise Funeral Home, 2250 Union St., Ramey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ramey, with the Rev. Zab Amar as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Ramey.
