Obituary Notice: Rev. Carla Williams

Rev. Carla Jean Rishel Williams, 69 of Curwensville, passed away on Oct. 12, 2010 at Clearfield Hospital.

Born Oct. 5, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Irene (Barnhoff) Rishel and William “Sam” Rishel, who survives, of Curwensville.

She was a past president and trustee of the Ladies Auxiliary #842 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Curwensville; a member of the Curwensville Days Committee and a charter member of the Curwensville Historical Society; a volunteer for the American Red Cross and an instructor for the Can-Surmount program of the American Cancer Society; a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Clearfield, where she was a Past Worthy Matron, secretary and Grand Delegate to Canada;.

She served as co-priest in charge of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Clearfield until her appointment as Vicar of St. Laurence Episcopal Church in Osceola Mills, where she has since served as priest in charge until the time of her death.

She was a 1959 graduate of the Curwensville High School and received her certification as a registered nurse from the Indiana Hospital School of Nursing in 1963. She graduated from the Diocesian School for Ministry and was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church on Nov. 20, 2005. Sh was later ordained an Episcopal priest on June 7, 2006.

On Sept. 4, 1982 in Curwensville, she wed the Rev. Dr. A. Glenn Williams, who survives at home.

She was preceded in death by her mother and son William Osborn.

She is survived by her husband, sister Edith Ann Lippert of Curwensville and several nieces and nephews.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Oct. 16 at 12 p.m. at St. Laurence Episcopal Church in Osceola Mills, with the Rev. William R. Walker as celebrant. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Curwensville.

Rev. Williams’ visitation will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg.
