ALTOONA – The Altoona Regional Health System will open its first outpatient service – Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Services – in the Station Medical Center on Monday.
The 10,115-square-foot facility features:
* Two HydroTracks, an underwater treadmill designed to provide hydrotherapy to the back and lower extremities.
* A fully-equipped gym with state-of-the-art isokinetic testing for joints (provides joint-specific strength assessment for joint problems and/or following orthopedic surgery, such as knee replacements and other orthopedic surgeries).
* Functional assessments, which use primus BTE (functional capacities, pre-employment screening and work hardening and conditioning).
Additional services will include:
* A full-range of physical therapy.
* A full complement of occupational therapy, including a certified hand therapist and manual lymphatic drainage.
* Speech therapy with a certified speech pathologist.
* Vestibular and balance rehabilitation featuring the Biodex Balance System.
“This is a spacious, very convenient facility designed with our patients in mind,” said Paul Tryninewski, director of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. “It is convenient both to the other medical practices at the Station Medical Center and it also very accessible to major roadways off of 17th Street and Interstate 99. The new site also features ample, door-side parking.”
The outpatient Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Services department has increased its staff and hours to better serve patients. Expanded hours will be Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. The department also has a new phone number (889-3900) and a new fax number (889-3902).
Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation is the first of many services to move into Station Medical Center.
“The consolidation of our outpatient services and staffs at Station Medical Center is yet another way we are enhancing health care for our community,” said Jerry Murray, Altoona Regional president and CEO. “The services will not only be more accessible but many will also offer updated and upgraded technology, especially Imaging Services with digital mammography and a wide-bore MRI.”
Wide-bore MRI offers all the features of traditional MRI but with more room.
Imaging Services will begin its move to Station Medical Center in stages sometime after Jan. 1.
Other services moving to the Station Medical Center include Cardiac Rehabilitation, Sleep Lab, HealthForce, Outpatient Laboratory Services, Neurology testing and Pre-Anesthesia. These departments will have staggered move-in dates in the next 30 to 60 days.
Patient Access (registration) will also have staff at the new site.
