PHILIPSBURG — The Clearfield cross country teams traveled to Philipsburg on Tuesday to run against the host Mounties and Bald Eagle Area.

Both teams managed a split as the boys lost to P-O 24-31 and beat BEA 15-50. The girls also lost to P-O by a score of 24-31 and beat BEA 15-50.

Johanna Ryan was the top Clearfield finisher when she crossed the tape in 21:12. The top boy finisher for Clearfield was Adam Jury who finished fifth overall with a time of 19:07. Right behind Jury in sixth place, with a time of 19:10 was Alec Coble.

Head coach John Jacob commented on his team’s improvement, “Our top two girls, Johanna and Juliana (Melgard) preformed very well today.  They both finished  close to their personal bests and ran smart races just narrowly missing P-O’s top two girls.  The race of the day belonged to Becca Ward finishing third on the team and running her personal best time of 23:37. Becca battled hard from the beginning and did a great job getting places for the team with the end result being her best time.  Also on the girls side Abby Jury and Morgen Turner had their best times, as we get closer to our championship meets.

“On the boys side we put three boys under the 20 min barrier with Caleb Baas knocking on the door.  Adam, Alec and  Jesse (Neyman) all had their best times of the season.  The boys team is really starting to work together in meets and workouts and their times are starting to reflect their efforts.  The highlight of the day belonged to Kyle Thompson who dropped his time by over three minutes.  Kyle looked like a new runner today. He made some moves throughout that showed he is starting to mature as a runner.  When Kyle made his move it also helped our other freshman runner Matt Bell.  Both runners made significant improvements this week.”

Clearfield will be back in action when they compete at the Ridgway Invitational on October 9.
