BYRNEDALE – A single-vehicle accident claimed the life of a 17-year-old Weedville boy at 2:40 p.m. Thursday on state Route 0255 at Grant Street in Byrnedale in Jay Township, Elk County, the Ridgway State Police reported.

The boy who was not identified by state police died as a result of injuries that he sustained in the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner Robert Sorg.  The boy’s seatbelt was not in use at the time of the accident.

According to the accident report, the 17-year-old boy was traveling south on SR 0255 at Grant Street. For unknown reasons, his vehicle traveled off the west side of the roadway.

Police said his vehicle traveled up an embankment, causing it to become airborne. His vehicle overturned twice, and the boy was partially ejected as a result. His vehicle came to a final rest on the west berm of SR 0255, facing northward on its roof.

The boy was operating a 1994 Cadillac, which sustained severe damage in the accident. It was removed from the scene by Kunes Towing.
