HYDE – For the second consecutive day, students at the Clearfield Area High School have “walked out” to display their opposition to the newly implemented dress code policy, which prohibits them from wearing any clothing with holes and tears.
According to a spokesperson for the Lawrence Township Police Department, officers were dispatched to the school again this morning at approximately 8:40 a.m. Seven students were reportedly walking down the hill and away from school property, police said.
Police said high school officials also requested that officers be present at the start of school Thursday morning. School officials told police they had learned of rumors about a possible student protest.
However, the approximately 15 to 20 students waited until officers left the scene to stage their demonstration following the morning homeroom period. Officers were then dispatched back to the school at approximately 8:20 a.m.
“The students were being disorderly and interrupting the daily schedule of school,” police said. They indicated they received a third call about the demonstration around 12:15 p.m., when students left school property.
Police said the students were walking alongside each other on Washington Avenue and creating traffic problems. They were warned by police if their actions continued that they would be arrested.
No arrests were made as a result of the student protest. School officials are handing the disciplinary action, including student suspension, police said.
When contacted by GantDaily on Friday morning, High School Principal Kevin Wallace declined to comment on the incident.
