Obituary Notice: Donald W. Barger

Donald W. Barger, 81, of Clearfield, passed away on August 2, 2010 at the Clearfield Hospital.

Mr. Barger was born on Sept. 8, 1928 in Clearfield, PA and was the son of Orin and Katherine (Singer) Barger.

Mr. Barger had retired from Kurtz Brothers after nearly 30 years of service.

He was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield and was a member of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post No. 6.

Mr.Barger was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Barger is survived by two children; Michael Barger and his companion Tina Nestlerode of Clearfield and Diane Sunderland and her companion Dale Porter of Clearfield; four grandchildren: Steven Sunderland and his wife Amy, Angie Rish and her husband Mark, Matt Barger and his wife Vicki and Jamie Barger and six great grandchildren; Marissa, Cody, Payton, Sammy, Paige and C.J.

He was the last surviving member of his generation. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Doris E. (Graham) Barger, whom he married on Jan. 15, 1951 and who died on May 22, 2009; sisters and brothers: Kitty Griel, Nin Barger, Jack Barger, and Pearl Smith.

At the request of Mr. Barger there will be no public viewing and a private service will be held at the residence at the convenience of the family.

Also, there will be a public Memorial Service that will be held on Aug. 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield with Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating. Friends will be received in the church from 6:00 PM until the hour of services.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 13067, Alexandria, VA 22312 or to the West Side United Methodist Church, 317 Nichols Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.
